Bicyclist killed in Manatee County crash, Florida Highway Patrol says

A bicyclist died after being struck by an SUV in Manatee County early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on 15th Street East, near the intersection at 61st Avenue East in Bradenton, the agency said in a news release.

Troopers say a male bicyclist was riding east across 15th Street, south of the intersection, when he entered the path of an SUV travelling south and was hit.

The bicyclist was critically injured in the crash, the agency said. Emergency responders took him to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, FHP said.

Troopers had not yet confirmed the bicyclist’s identity on Saturday.

After the initial collision, the SUV overturned and hit a vehicle parked alongside 15th Street, FHP said.

Troopers said the SUV driver, a 28-year-old Bradenton man, was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
