Palmetto woman dies after boat crash into mangroves in Manatee County, FWC says
A Palmetto woman died after a boat carrying seven people crashed into mangroves over the Fourth of July weekend, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Felicia Taylor, 41, died after the single-vessel crash Sunday, the agency said.
According to the FWC, a 24-foot boat was leaving Flounder Pass and entering Terra Ceia Bay in Manatee County when it struck mangroves. Two people were injured and taken to a local hospital. Taylor later died from her injuries, FWC said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Manatee County Fire Rescue responded to the crash.
FWC is leading the investigation. The agency did not release additional details about what caused the crash or the condition of the second injured person.
FWC said the investigation remains active and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
“On behalf of the FWC, we extend our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and friends as they navigate this difficult time,” the agency said in a statement.
