Manatee heat advisory issued as feels like temperature reaches 110, NWS says
A heat advisory is in effect for Manatee County on Thursday as dangerously hot and humid conditions could make it feel as hot as 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and covers Manatee County and dozens of other counties across Florida.
Forecasters said Thursday’s conditions pose a major risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for people who spend long periods outdoors or do not have access to air conditioning. The weather service warned there may be little relief from the heat overnight.
Officials urged residents to drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioned spaces, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
Bradenton police also reminded residents not to leave children, pets or older adults in parked vehicles for any amount of time.
The National Weather Service recommends wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing and limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
