Crash with tractor-trailer kills 28-year-old in Manatee County, FHP says

A 28-year-old man from Wauchula died when his car collided with a tractor-trailer in East Manatee County on Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. on State Road 62, east of Bunker Hill Road in the Duette area, FHP said in a news release.

Troopers say the Wauchula man was driving west on State Road 62 when he crossed over the center line of the two-lane road. As he entered the wrong lane, a tractor-trailer that was traveling east hit the front left of his car.

The Wauchula man died at the scene, FHP said. The tractor-trailer driver, a 66-year-old Kissimmee man, had minor injuries, the agency said.

Troopers say an SUV and a pickup truck collided with debris from the crash, but none of the occupants of either vehicle were injured.

The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
