Truck hits school bus stop sign in Myakka, then drives away

A driver hit a school bus stop sign in Myakka and drove away, authorities said.

At 7:10 a.m. Friday, a school bus traveling on Betts Road, north of 103rd Avenue East, stopped to pick up a student, according to an FHP news release.

The bus had its red lights on and its stop sign extended when a white work truck traveling south failed to stop, the FHP said.

The truck hit the sign on the left side of the bus and the driver continued south on Betts Road, according to troopers.

The driver of the truck remains unknown. The bus driver and the students aboard weren’t injured, according to the release.

The highway patrol asks anyone with information on this incident to contact them by phone at *347 or through Crimestoppers.
