Palmetto woman killed, Bradenton driver and child injured in crash, FHP says

A Palmetto woman died and two others were injured in a Bradenton crash on Wednesday morning after the woman ran a stop sign, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At 6:50 a.m., a 61-year-old woman from Palmetto was driving an SUV north on 43rd Street West toward an intersection with a four-way stop at 21st Avenue West, according to a news release from the agency.

Another SUV, driven by a 31-year-old woman from Bradenton with a 1-year-old boy in a passenger’s seat, was stopped at a stop sign on 21st Street West, the release said.

After the Bradenton woman stopped, she proceeded to drive across the intersection. Troopers say the Palmetto woman failed to stop at a marked sign on 43rd Street West, and the two SUVs collided, according to FHP.

Emergency responders pronounced the Palmetto woman dead at the scene, according to the release.

Troopers say the Bradenton driver sustained serious injuries in the crash, and the one-year-old passenger had minor injuries.

FHP said the crash remains under investigation.
