Manatee set to launch monthly Mixon Farms Market event with local vendors
Manatee County Government is launching a new market with live music, fresh food and local vendors at Mixon Fruit Farms.
At the kickoff event on Sunday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a variety of attractions, including a “touch a tractor area” where visitors can “experience agriculture up close” and a wedding showcase to “highlight the venue’s charm and event possibilities” at the Gazebo and Grand Pavilion. The market at 2525 27th St. E., Bradenton, will run on the third Sunday of the month through May.
“The Mixon Farms Market is designed to bring the community together while supporting local small businesses and entrepreneurs,” a news release from the county said. “The market aims create a recurring destination where residents can shop local and connect with area growers, makers and vendors.”
The regular season for the Mixon Farms Market will run from September to May, and the market will continue this spring on April 19 and May 17.
In July, the Manatee County Commission unanimously approved the $13.5 million purchase of the 39-acre Mixon Fruit Farm property, with the goal of transforming the area into a “vibrant community space.” At the time, officials said they planned to continue the Mixon legacy with public events and future library services.
“Preserving local agriculture is essential to maintaining the character, economy and heritage of Manatee County,” said District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard. “The Mixon Farms Market not only supports our local farmers and small businesses, it also creates meaningful opportunities for residents to connect directly with the people who grow their food and sustain our agricultural traditions.”
Those who wish to participate as a vendor at future markets are encouraged to request information and sign up by emailing mixon@mymanatee.org.
