Family launches GoFundMe fundraiser for Lakewood Ranch boy after car accident
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched for an eighth-grader facing a long recovery after being hit by a car in a Lakewood Ranch neighborhood .
On Friday, Feb. 27, Liam was hit by a car and suffered “severe and complex,” his family said. The GoFundMe page estimates the initial medical costs between $300,000 and $750,000, as he must undergo complex surgeries and physical therapy.
The fundraiser organizer also estimated the long-term medical costs to be $500,000 to $1 million as Liam will face ongoing growth-related procedures and hardware revision or removal.
Liam, who was “always happy, laughing, always moving,” was hospitalized at a pediatric children’s center, according to the GoFundMe. In an update posted Thursday, Liam’s family said he has returned home from the hospital.
“Liam brings energy and kindness everywhere he goes, and he makes people feel better just by being himself,” the fundraiser says.
The GoFundMe says donations will help cover hospital care and surgical expenses, follow-up orthopedic care, future surgeries, physical therapy and more.
As of Friday evening, the fundraiser had raised about $3,320 of its $10,000 goal.
