Motorcycle rider killed in Manatee County crash with SUV, FHP says

A motorcyclist is dead after a crash with an SUV in Manatee County on Saturday afternoon, according the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the fatal wreck happened around 1:28 p.m. at the intersection of 301 Boulevard East and Fifth Street East in Bradenton.

A 63-year-old Sarasota man was riding a Honda Silver Wing maxi-scooter west on 301 Boulevard, approaching Fifth Street, the agency said.

Then, an SUV driver traveling north on Fifth Street attempted to cross 301 Boulevard and entered the path of the motorcycle, according to FHP.

The front of the motorcycle hit the right side of the SUV, the agency said. Troopers say the crash overturned the motorcycle and threw off the rider, who was critically injured.

Emergency responders took the Sarasota man to a local hospital, where medical staff later pronounced him dead.

A 47-year-old Bradenton woman who was a passenger in the SUV had minor injuries, according to FHP. The driver, a 37-year-old Bradenton woman, was uninjured, the agency said.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers say.
