A Bradenton road is set to close for a month as workers make construction improvements for a new affordable housing complex.

From Thursday, Feb. 26, to March 26, the east end of Orlando Avenue at Fifth Street West will be closed due to water main, drainage and roadwork repairs for Cedar Cove, a new affordable housing option in Bradenton, according to Manatee County Government.

The Bradenton Herald previously reported on the development of the $28 million Cedar Cove complex, which will be made up of three three-story buildings and provide a total of 80 affordable housing units for families emerging from homelessness. The apartment complex is set to open by spring 2027.

“Cedar Cove will provide the housing that is needed for those who need it the most,” Manatee County Commissioner Mike Rahn previously said.

Fifth Street West will also have intermittent lane closures and alternating traffic .

County officials urge drivers to detour, using Fifth Street West, 53rd Avenue West (State Road 70), 44th Avenue West and 14th Street West.
