Parrish man dies after tractor-trailer U-turn crash on I-75, troopers say
A Parrish man has died after a tractor-trailer attempted an illegal U-turn to get around traffic on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
On Monday afternoon, a tractor-trailer, driven by Julio Dones, 45, was stuck in slow-moving traffic on I-75, troopers say. Near the Hillsborough and Manatee County line, Dones attempted to perform a U-turn onto the southbound portion of the interstate to bypass traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
While performing the U-turn, Dones entered the path of a Toyota Corolla driven by a 28-year-old Parrish man, and the vehicles crashed, troopers say . The Parrish man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to a news release .
In an update Wednesday evening, troopers announced that Parrish man died from his injuries.
Dones has been arrested and transported to Hillsborough County Jail on charges of reckless driving involving serious injury.
