Motorcyclist killed after collision with dump truck in Manatee County, FHP says

A 62-year-old Virginia man died Thursday after his motorcycle collided with a dump truck at a Manatee County intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 12:16 p.m. at Creekside Park Drive and Golf Course Road in Parrish, FHP said.

Troopers said the motorcyclist and a dump truck were traveling west on Golf Course Road when the motorcyclist slowed as he approached the intersection, then moved into the eastbound lane to pass the truck. As the motorcycle entered the eastbound lane, the dump truck began making a left turn, pulling into the motorcycle’s path, investigators said.

The front of the motorcycle struck the left side of the truck, according to FHP.

The motorcyclist was flown by Bayflite helicopter to Tampa General Hospital, where FHP said he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released, and next of kin had not yet been notified as of Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release.

The dump truck driver, a 54-year-old man from Plant City, was not injured and was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
