Bradenton 16-year-old dies in fatal motorcycle crash, FHP troopers say
A Bradenton teenager died in a motorcycle accident on State Road 70 early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
At about 3:22 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol responded to reports of a collision involving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Chevy sedan at the intersection of State Road 70 and Caruso Road near Manatee Technical College, according to a news release.
The motorcycle was driven by a 17-year-old Bradenton teen, with a 16-year-old also riding as a passenger. The Harley-Davidson approached the intersection on a steady red traffic signal while traveling east, according to the release.
The Chevy sedan, traveling west, was attempting to make a left turn onto Caruso Road during a green light when the motorcycle entered the intersection and collided with the sedan, the release said.
“The Driver and Passenger… were separated from the Harley-Davidson during the initial collision,” the Florida Highway Patrol release said.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to HCA Florida Blake Hospital with critical injuries, and the passenger was pronounced dead on the scene by Manatee County Emergency Medical Services, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries, according to the news release.
The crash is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit, according to the release.
