School bus crash reported on US 41 in Manatee County, Florida troopers say

A van sideswiped a school bus while driving on U.S. 41 Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The school bus was stopped facing north , waiting to turn right, when a GMC van driven by a 28-year-old Sarasota man approached it at the intersection of Orlando Avenue around 7 a.m., troopers say.

The van, occupying the road’s middle lane, “failed to maintain a safe distance” from the school bus, and its right-side mirror collided with the school bus’s left side, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Four students were on board the bus, and no injuries were reported, according to authorities.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
