Are fireworks allowed this New Year’s holiday? Manatee officials have a warning

Due to ongoing drought conditions, personal fireworks are banned in Manatee County this New Year’s holiday.

Manatee County Government recently extended its burn ban, which includes the use of fireworks and sparklers, to limit the risk of uncontrolled fires. Officials are reminding residents of the restrictions ahead of New Year’s celebrations.

“It’s been a very dry season,” Manatee County Public Safety Director Jodie Fiske previously said.

The Bradenton Police Department also posted on social media, urging residents to save their fireworks for the Fourth of July holiday instead.

“Personal use of discharge of fireworks, sparklers, flares, campfires, & all outdoor burning is prohibited,” the department wrote.

Where to see fireworks around Bradenton

There are still opportunities to enjoy a fireworks show in the Bradenton area, though.

The Bradenton Riverwalk will host the Bradenton Alive New Year’s Eve Celebration starting at 8 p.m. The event features food and drink vendors, merchants and a fireworks display.

In Sarasota, the annual Pineapple Drop mega block party will include live DJs, food and drink, arts and crafts vendors, kids activities and more. Around midnight, the pineapple drop will happen at the corner of Main and Lemon streets, with a fireworks display over Sarasota Bay afterwards.
