Your guide to Manatee County closures and trash pickup for Christmas, New Year’s
To ensure residents of Bradenton and Manatee County have the most holly jolly Christmas possible, they should be aware of government closures and trash pickup changes this holiday season.
Here’s what to know.
Manatee County closures and trash pickup
All Manatee County offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Garbage and recycling pickup will not occur on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Pickup will instead take place the following day. The pickup scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 25, will happen on Friday, Dec. 26, and the New Year’s Day pickup will happen on Jan. 2.
Beaches in Manatee County will remain open to the public throughout the holidays, as will preserves and public parks.
GT Bray Recreation Center and Lincoln Aquatic Center are open for lap swim on Christmas Eve from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the same swim hours will be observed on New Year’s Eve. Pools and splash pads will be closed on Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) and Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day).
All Manatee County Public Libraries will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
As for public transit, Manatee County Area Transit buses end all routes at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Anna Maria Island Trolley ends its routes at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, but continues to operate on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays throughout the Christmas season. There will also be no fixed route or Handy Bus services on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1 (Christmas Day and New Year’s Day).
Bradenton and Palmetto closures and trash pickup
Government offices in Bradenton will be closed on Dec. 24 through 25 in observance of Christmas, although the city notes that emergency services will remain open.
City of Palmetto offices will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 26.
Waste collection services will not take place on Christmas Day for Bradenton and Palmetto. Pickups scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 25 will take place on Friday, Dec. 26, and Friday’s pickup will also be moved back one day to Saturday, Dec. 27. Pickups scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 1 will take place on Friday, Jan. 2, and Friday’s pickups will take place on Saturday, Jan. 3.
