Dog surrendered in Bradenton animal cruelty case seeks new home, police say
One of the dogs surrendered to animal welfare officials has now been adopted, a spokesperson with the Bradenton Police Department says.
Henry, a Great Dane, and Hades, a mixed-breed dog, were both voluntarily surrendered by 30-year-old Adriana O’Hara, and her boyfriend, 33-year-old Timothy Miller, in October, police said . The dogs were treated at Bishop Animal Shelter for severe emaciation and bodily sores, which are consistent with mistreatment and “inappropriate housing and bedding,” according to a Bradenton Police Department news release.
Henry and Hades were put up for adoption through Manatee County’s Black Friday event at the Palmetto Animal Shelter, and Henry has now found a new home.
Hades, however, is still available for adoption at the Palmetto Dog Adoption Center.
O’Hara worked as a legal assistant at the State Attorney’s Office and was fired following the criminal investigation, the Bradenton Herald previously reported. The Bradenton Police Department found a total of five dogs in her and Miller’s house, and all were taken to the Bishop Animal Shelter for observation and treatment, according to a news release.
“Her actions were both troubling and disturbing and not in conformity with the high standards we expect of our employees,” State Attorney Ed Brodsky previously told the Bradenton Herald. “She is no longer employed with our office.”
A legal challenge to revoke the ownership of three other dogs found at the couple’s home is ongoing, according to public records.
The remaining three dogs will be put up for adoption in the event the judge revokes the couple’s ownership, according to Meredith Censullo, the public information officer with the Bradenton Police Department.
O’Hara faces five felony charges of aggravated animal cruelty, according to court records.
Dexter’s Law, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in May , created the state’s first public registry of individuals convicted of animal abuse and increased penalties regarding the crime.
