What to know about Thanksgiving trash pickup and closures in Manatee County
Thanksgiving week is here.
As residents of Bradenton and Manatee County prepare their turkeys and enjoy holiday celebrations, they should also be aware of adjusted waste collection schedules and government building closures.
Residents of Bradenton, Palmetto and unincorporated Manatee County will not have their trash collected on Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, Nov. 27. Instead, garbage will be collected the following day: Friday, Nov. 28. Friday’s collection is also postponed one day, to Saturday, Nov. 29.
Containers should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the adjusted collection day. Regular schedules will resume on Monday, Dec. 1.
Government offices closed
Government offices for Manatee County and the cities of Bradenton and Palmetto will be closed on Thanksgiving Day as well as Friday, Nov. 28, in observance of the holiday. Government offices will return to normal business hours on Monday, Dec. 1.
What about buses, libraries and parks?
As for public transit, Manatee County’s fixed route buses, in addition to their Handy Bus service, will not be available on Thanksgiving Day. These services will resume their regular schedules on Friday, Nov. 28.
Manatee Library locations are set to close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26. They will remain closed until 9 a.m. Saturday.
Residents who enjoy recreational activities should note that the G.T. Bray Recreation Center will close at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. The center will reopen at 7 a.m. on the following Saturday, resuming its normal weekend hours. Aquatic facilities at Bray and Lincoln Parks will also be closed Thanksgiving Day.
Other county parks, preserves and beaches will be open on Thanksgiving Day.
Residents of Bradenton and Manatee County should be aware of these adjusted schedules and business hours to minimize inconvenience and in turn, maximize Thanksgiving fun.
