A Ford Explorer driven by a 17-year-old heading south on First Street, entered the intersection at 31st Ave. E. lawfully on a green light and crashed into the pedestrian around 6 a.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived around 6:30 a.m., according to Senior Trooper Kenneth Watson, a spokesperson with the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver, who lives in Zolfo Springs, was not injured in the crash, troopers say.

The crash is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit, Watson said.
