A 56-year-old Bradenton man died Thursday after an SUV hit his bicycle on U.S. 41, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of Main Drive at the entrance to the Sunset Village Mobile Home Park in Bradenton, troopers said. The man was riding north in the southbound left lane when a 31-year-old Bradenton woman turned her SUV from Main Drive onto U.S. 41 and struck him, according to a news release.

He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries and later pronounced dead, the agency reported. Troopers said the man was not wearing a helmet.
