A 29-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash early Thursday when his SUV overturned on Manatee Avenue West in Bradenton, police said.

A passerby called 911 around 3:07 a.m., and officers responded to the 7500 block of Manatee Avenue, according to Bradenton Police Department spokesperson Meredith Censullo. The crash ejected the driver, who was the only occupant of the SUV, Censullo said.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital with multiple lower-body fractures, according to Censullo. Police said his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Investigators believe the SUV was heading west when it veered across lanes and rolled over. Censullo said “speed and intoxication are likely factors,” but emphasized the case remains under investigation. The man was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The road was closed for about three hours Thursday morning during the investigation but has since reopened, according to police.
