Two Manatee County residents died and two other people were injured in a high-speed crash early Saturday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers say a 19-year-old Ellenton man was heading south on Silverleaf Avenue near U.S. 301 “at a high rate of speed” when his Dodge Charger traveled off the Parrish roadway with three passengers inside around 2:15 a.m. The car “collided with several trees,” killing the driver and the front seat passenger, a 19-year-old Parrish man, a crash report said.

Neither the driver nor the front seat passenger were wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.

Two passengers in the backseat, a 17-year-old Parrish boy and a 16-year-old girl from Holtsville, New York, were injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital. The boy sustained critical injuries, and the girl’s injuries were serious, according to an FHP crash report.

Troopers have not publicly released the names of the people involved in the crash.

FHP says the crash remains under investigation. Further information was not immediately available Saturday afternoon.
