Man dies after drowning in pool at Bradenton apartment complex, deputies say
A man drowned early Monday during a party at an apartment complex’s pool in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they arrived around 1:30 a.m. at the Fountain Lake Apartments in the 5600 block of Fountain Lake Circle, where about 25 people had gathered to swim. Witnesses reported seeing 27-year-old Tchaly Orphee lying at the bottom of the pool before bystanders pulled him onto the deck and began CPR, according to a news release.
Paramedics arrived minutes later to continue life-saving efforts, but Orphee was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m., according to the release.
Friends told investigators Orphee was not a strong swimmer and likely slipped underwater without anyone noticing, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said the pool was unlit and officially closed at the time of the gathering.
The sheriff’s office said detectives found no signs of foul play and described the scene as consistent with an accidental drowning.
