A 57-year-old man died Wednesday night after his car ran off U.S. 41 in Manatee County, slammed into a wall and overturned, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the Sarasota man was driving a Nissan Versa north on U.S. 41 in Palmetto near Scale Avenue around 8:25 p.m. when he entered the right-turn lane, veered onto the grass shoulder and continued across Scale Avenue.

The driver’s car hit a stop sign, then crashed into a concrete retaining wall and overturned onto its roof, according to a news release.

EMS pronounced the driver dead at the scene, FHP said.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
