Manatee County to offer sandbags throughout hurricane season. What to know
You don’t have to wait for an approaching storm to grab sandbags in Manatee County this hurricane season.
County officials announced there are several self-service sandbag locations now open throughout the county. They will operate through Nov. 30, the last day of hurricane season.
From dawn until dusk, the following places will have sandbags available while supplies last:
- Blackstone Park, 2112 14th Ave. W., Palmetto
- Myakka Community Center, 10060 Wauchula Road, Myakka City
- Palma Sola Park, 7815 40th Ave. W., Bradenton
- Parrish Park Overflow Parking, 77550 Ft. Hamer Road, Parrish
- Rubonia Community Center, 1309 72nd St. E., Palmetto
- Rye Preserve, 905 Rye Wilderness Trail, Parrish
- Manatee County Stormwater Facility, 5511 39th St. E., Bradenton
While bags and sand are provided, shovels and transportation are not, according to a news release.
“Having sandbags ready ahead of a storm can make a big difference in protecting homes and property,” Manatee County Commission Chairman George Kruse said in the news release. “We encourage residents to prepare early and make use of these resources now —before a storm is on the way.”
A sandbag site map is available at MyManatee.org/storm.
The move comes after a catastrophic hurricane season in Manatee County. Hurricane Debbie hit the area in August, before Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused widespread flooding, damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure between late September and early October.
