Inspectors temporarily close Bradenton restaurant with rodent problem

Florida’s Division of Hotels and Restaurants routinely inspects restaurants, food trucks and other food service establishments for public health and cleanliness issues.

The reports are public information.

During recent inspections, a diner and restaurant in Bradenton was temporarily shut down after an inspector found signs of rodent activity onsite.

5th Season Diner & Steak, 6515 14th St. W., Bradenton — Inspected and temporarily shut down May 13

• High priority: An inspector observed approximately 40 rodent droppings in a back kitchen area and 25 rodent droppings in a front kitchen area.
• Basic: An inspector observed six basic violations, including two employees preparing food without hair restraints. Corrective action was taken.
• The restaurant met inspection standards during a follow-up visit on May 14 and was allowed to reopen.

The agency is required to inspect every licensed restaurant at least once per year, but new and “high-risk” establishments tend to be inspected more frequently.

When an emergency shutdown order is given by an inspector, it must first be reviewed and approved by agency supervisors. In order for a business to reopen, an inspector will continue visiting the establishment daily until compliance is met. Some citations may include a financial penalty.
