Pickup truck hits Manatee County school bus in hit-and-run crash, FHP says
A pickup truck driver left the scene after crashing into a Manatee County school bus Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. at 57th Street East and State Road 64 in Bradenton, troopers said.
FHP said the school bus was stopped facing north on 57th Street East when the pickup driver tried to pass on the right but failed to maintain a safe distance. The driver sideswiped the right side of the bus, according to a news release.
After the collision, the pickup driver fled north on 57th Street East and turned east onto State Road 64, according to FHP. As of Wednesday evening, troopers said the driver had not been identified.
There were 51 students on board the bus at the time. No injuries were reported, according to the release.
Troopers continue to investigate the crash, according to FHP.
