Manatee County’s first Parrish hospital begins construction. What to know

BayCare Health System began construction this week on its long-awaited hospital in Parrish.

The comprehensive acute care facility is BayCare’s 17th in the Tampa Bay area and its first in Manatee County. It’s also the first hospital north of the Manatee River. With more than 150 beds in private patient rooms and a 45,000-square-foot medical arts building, the project is expected to be completed in 2028.

The hospital, which is expected to cost $563 million, is located at 6730 Moccasin Wallow Road in the Robinson Gateway property, about one mile north of the Interstate 75 and Interstate 275 intersection.

“BayCare Hospital Manatee and BayCare HealthHub (Manatee) will provide residents with high-quality, compassionate care closer to home and we are proud to bring these essential services to the region,” Stephanie Conners, BayCare president and CEO, said in a news release.

BayCare Health System first announced plans to build its not-for-profit hospital in 2022, the Bradenton Herald previously reported.

What’s at the new hospital?

BayCare Hospital Manatee services include general, orthopedic and specialty surgery, urology, gastroenterology, cardiology, diagnostic and interventional imaging, emergency care, obstetrics and neonatology, the Bradenton Herald previously reported.

The smaller BayCare HealthHub (Manatee) facility will open first in 2026. According to a news release, the HealthHub will offer “convenient, patient-focused health care solutions in a modern, accessible setting,” including primary and specialty services, MRI, PET CT, mammography, DEXA and ultrasound.

BayCare Health System plans to open a 45,000-square-foot HealthHub (Manatee) facility in Parrish in 2026, offering a wide array of services ahead of its incoming 154-bed hospital on Moccasin Wallow Road.

“At BayCare, our mission is to serve the community’s health and we are so excited to be deepening our commitment to the residents of Manatee County,” Conners previously told the Bradenton Herald.

BayCare contributed $557 million, more than 10% of its revenue, in 2023 to community benefit initiatives, so every person had access to care regardless of their ability to pay, the Herald previously reported.

BayCare’s other hospitals are in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties.

Another Parrish hospital

BayCare is not the only hospital planned north of the Manatee River. HCA Florida Healthcare is building a hospital off Moccasin Wallow Road at 9308 Fort Hamer Road, the Bradenton Herald previously reported.

The name of the project is HCA Florida North River Ranch.

HCA Florida Healthcare is a for-profit company that owns HCA Blake Hospital in Bradenton.

The Herald previously reported HCA’s plans included a 150-bed hospital, a 326-bed assisted living facility and 247,000 square feet of medical office space.

HCA Florida North River Ranch Emergency Center, totaling nearly 14,000 square feet, is the first phase of the project to be built, the Bradenton Herald previously reported.
