Lakewood Ranch woman, child seriously injured in multi-car crash, FHP says

A woman and a child from Lakewood Ranch were seriously injured Monday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on State Road 70, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. at the intersection of Greenbrook Boulevard and State Road 70 in Manatee County, according to a news release.

Troopers said a 24-year-old Sarasota man driving an Infiniti east on State Road 70 failed to stop and rear-ended a Kia sedan that was stopped at a red light.

Investigators said the impact pushed the Kia, driven by a 56-year-old Lakewood Ranch woman, into the intersection. Troopers said the driver of the Infiniti then veered across the median into westbound traffic, where he struck a Mercedes-Benz SUV and a Honda sedan that were also stopped at the red light.

The woman driving the Kia and a child passenger were both seriously injured, FHP said.

The driver of the Infiniti suffered minor injuries, according to a news release. A 52-year-old woman from Punta Gorda, who was driving the Honda, also suffered minor injuries, troopers said. The FHP report did not disclose if the 16-year-old Mercedes driver had any injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
