Bradenton car accident kills pedestrian who fell into roadway, Florida troopers say
A driver fatally struck an 85-year-old woman after she fell in the middle of a Bradenton road early Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the woman, who suffered from dementia and had a history of falling, left her home around 5:30 a.m. and collapsed in the roadway at Woodlawn Drive and Wildwood Springs Boulevard.
FHP said a 60-year-old Bradenton woman was driving a Hyundai Sonata west on Woodlawn Drive when she made a right turn onto Wildwood Springs Boulevard and struck the woman in the road. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Manatee County EMS.
Troopers said the driver was not injured in the accident. FHP said she had “no opportunity to see” the pedestrian before the crash. No criminal charges are expected.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate the crash.
