A Bradenton grocery store just closed. But something new is coming in its place
A Winn-Dixie grocery store in Bradenton has closed, but something new is already planned to replace it.
The store at 5805 Manatee Ave. W. in the Palma Sola Square shopping center is no longer operating, Winn-Dixie parent company Southeastern Grocers told the Bradenton Herald. The Winn-Dixie liquor store in the same plaza has also closed.
What will the vacant store become?
The company confirmed that the grocery store will be converted into an Aldi, joining a list of hundreds of other Winn-Dixie-to-Aldi conversions planned in the Southeast.
Closed Bradenton Winn-Dixie to become an Aldi
Neither Winn-Dixie nor Aldi have confirmed when the converted store will open. It will be Aldi’s eighth grocery store in Manatee County.
Winn-Dixie has closed two other Manatee County stores in recent years. A store at 11525 State Road 70 East in Lakewood Ranch closed in 2023 is now The Fresh Market, and a store at 3500 53rd Ave. W., Bradenton closed in 2018 is now a Detwiler’s Farm Market.
There are four Manatee County Winn-Dixie stores still operating:
- 1010 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton
- 5802 14th St. W., Bradenton
- 7400 Cortez Road W., Bradenton
- 515 Seventh St. W., Palmetto
New Bradenton grocery store part of Aldi expansion
Aldi, headquartered in Batavia, Illinois, announced in March it acquired Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket parent company Southeastern Grocers. The company said it planned 800 stores nationwide through new openings or store conversions by the end of 2028.
On Feb. 7, Aldi shared an update that it had sold off Southeastern Grocers after less than a year of ownership. However, the company said it will keep about 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations that will be converted into Aldi stores.
Aldi previously declined to confirm conversion plans for the Manatee Avenue Winn-Dixie after it filed remodel plans with Manatee County last summer.
