Fatal semi-truck crash on US 41 in Manatee County kills 48-year-old man, FHP says

A pickup truck driver was killed at the scene of a crash involving a semi-truck early Friday on U.S. 41 in Manatee County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 5:49 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Piney Point Road. According to troopers, the semi-truck was traveling east on Piney Point Road and attempted to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. 41, entering the path of the pickup truck.

The pickup truck, driven by a 48-year-old Daytona Beach man, collided with the left side of the semi-truck. The man, whose name has not been publicly released, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

The semi-truck driver, a 58-year-old man from Lake Wales, was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
