A 49-year-old Bradenton man died Sunday when he was hit by multiple vehicles while attempting to cross State Road 70 on foot, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 6:54 p.m. on S.R. 70, west of 15th Street East in Manatee County, FHP said.

Troopers say the Bradenton man attempted to walk south across S.R. 70 from a grass shoulder, but he stepped into the path of an SUV driven by a 25-year-old Manatee County woman. The SUV struck the pedestrian, throwing him across the westbound lanes and into the path of two oncoming vehicles, according to FHP.

A sedan and another SUV following behindalso struck the pedestrian, according to a news release.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

FHP did not name the Bradenton man or the drivers in the news release.

FHP continued to investigate the crash on Monday, the agency said.
