An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup truck in Manatee County early Sunday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened at 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of University Parkway and Cattlemen Road in the University Park area, the agency said.

Troopers say the 18-year-old Sarasota man was riding a motorcycle eastbound on University Parkway and entered the intersection at Cattlemen Road.

At the same time, a driver traveling north in a pickup truck on Cattlemen Road attempted to make a left turn onto westbound University Parkway. The motorcycle collided with the left side of the pickup, FHP said.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, according to a news release.

The 35-year-old Sarasota man driving the pickup truck and a passenger were uninjured, FHP said.

FHP did not name the drivers in the news release.

The crash was still under investigation on Sunday, the agency said.
