3 killed in Manatee County Interstate 275 crash after truck catches fire, troopers say

Three people died in a crash after a pickup truck struck a pole on Interstate 275 and caught fire early Wednesday morning, troopers say.

The Florida Highway Patrol announced in a press release that the truck was traveling south near the I-275 mile marker 1 in Palmetto around 3:17 a.m. when it left the roadway and hit a utility pole. The driver and two passengers died at the scene, according to a crash report.

Troopers are still working to identify the driver and the passengers in the truck, a news release said.

An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing. Further information was not immediately available Wednesday morning.
