A 20-year-old motorcyclist from Palmetto died in a crash Monday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers say a 42-year-old Parrish man driving a van just west of Interstate 75 made a turn across the eastbound lanes of State Road 70 onto Manor Hill Lane East around 4:45 p.m. when it traveled into the path of an oncoming motorcycle, causing the bike to collide with the right-rear of the van.

The motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he later died, according to a news release.

The crash remains under investigation. Further information about the crash was not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.
