A 16-year-old driver fatally collided with a pedestrian Friday night in Lakewood Ranch, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The teen was driving alone in a sedan on the inside lane of State Road 70, just west of Braden Run, when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing the eastbound lanes of State Road 70, according to an FHP report.

Troopers say the fatal accident happened just after 10 p.m. Friday.

The 39-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, according to a crash report.

The crash remains under investigation.
