A 45-year-old Bradenton man died Monday afternoon after a car hit him while he was riding a bike on Cortez Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Just before 4:30 p.m., a 23-year-old Sarasota man was driving a Chevrolet sedan westbound on Cortez Road near 24th Street West. The man did not see the bicyclist and hit him in the crosswalk, troopers said.

The bicyclist, whose name has not been released, was taken to HCA Florida Blake Hospital, where he later died.

The Sarasota man was not hurt in the crash, troopers said.

The crash is still under investigation.

Further details were not available Tuesday morning.
