4,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into Bradenton streets after lift station failure
The City of Bradenton spilled 4,000 gallons of sewage after a lift station issue on Wednesday, officials announced in a social media post.
The incident involved a variable frequency drive and float malfunction failure due to an obstruction at Lift Station No. 18, located at 1200 15th Street East, the City of Bradenton’s Instagram account posted.
The untreated wastewater spill flowed into the streets and gutters along 23rd and 24th Street, with some heading east of 24th Street into a storm drain on the south side of 13th Avenue, the city reported.
The Public Works Department used a vacuum truck to clean up about half of the spill and haul it to a dump site, according to city officials.
“The affected areas were promptly treated and returned to normal,” the social media post said.
City officials said the spill had been reported “to the appropriate agencies,” but further information about the report had not appeared on the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s pollution notice list as of Friday afternoon.
