A Bradenton man died after crashing his SUV into a guardrail in Palmetto on Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a 52-year-old Bradenton man was driving east on 49th Street East near 16th Avenue East Monday at around 6:30 p.m. when he drove off the road and onto the grass shoulder for an unknown reason before colliding with a guardrail and culvert.

Troopers say the driver was pronounced dead on the scene, while a passenger, a 38-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The front right of the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban hit the guardrail and culvert before entering a canal with no water present, according to a news release.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
