A 65-year-old Parrish man died Monday afternoon after he crashed into a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 12:58 p.m. Monday in the Lakewood Ranch Plaza parking lot, 1755 Lakewood Ranch Blvd.

The man, whose name has not been released to the public, was driving toward the Wells Fargo Bank when he drove over a sidewalk and hit a tree. FHP troopers said he had a “medical episode” and lost control of the car.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, according to a crash report.

The crash is under investigation. No other details were immediately available Monday afternoon.
