A pedestrian was critically injured trying to cross 301 Boulevard East in Manatee County on Friday night, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The crash happened at 9:40 p.m. Friday on 301 Boulevard East near the intersection at Fifth Street East in the Samoset area near Bradenton, FHP said.

Troopers say the pedestrian was walking northwest on the north paved shoulder of 301 Boulevard East when he attempted to cross the boulevard and was hit by an oncoming sedan.

He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. His identity was unknown at the time of the news release, FHP said.

The driver of the sedan, a 62-year-old Bradenton woman, was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
