A Tampa woman was hit by a car and killed while attempting to cross Interstate 75 in Manatee County, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release Wednesday morning.

Troopers say the 29-year-old woman was trying to cross the southbound lanes of I-75 approaching Exit 224 at U.S. 301 in Ellenton around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a sedan heading south.

The pedestrian died at the scene, troopers say.
