A 71-year-old Bradenton woman was critically injured when she was hit by a pickup truck at a Manatee County intersection Thursday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The crash happened at 8:48 a.m. at the intersection of University Parkway and Lockwood Ridge Road in the University Park area just north of Sarasota, FHP said.

Troopers say the Bradenton woman was attempting to cross the intersection from the sidewalk at the northwest corner.

A pickup truck had stopped for a yield sign on Lockwood Ridge Road before turning west on University Parkway. It accelerated and hit the woman crossing the road, FHP said.

She was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Her name was not released.

The driver of the pickup, a 50-year-old Bradenton woman, wasn’t hurt.

The crash remained under investigation.
