61-year-old Palmetto woman killed when pickup crashes into ditch, FHP says

A 61-year-old Palmetto woman died after her pickup truck crashed into a ditch and hit a concrete culvert on Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release Sunday.

The wreck happened at 9:02 p.m. along 301 Boulevard East in the Bradenton area of Manatee County, FHP said.

Troopers said the Palmetto woman was driving west on 301 Boulevard, approaching U.S. 41, when her pickup drove off the roadway for unknown reasons. They said she may have had a medical issue.

After the collision with the culvert, she was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where she died, FHP said.

An 11-year-old Palmetto girl in a passenger’s seat was uninjured, troopers said. Crash investigators said both the vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remained under investigation on Sunday, FHP said.
