Florida man killed in crash with truck in northern Manatee County, FHP report says
A 38-year-old Cape Coral man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in northern Manatee County on Monday.
The man was driving a pickup truck on Interstate 275 in the left lane and heading west, when a 46-year-old Tampa man driving a pickup truck was entering I-275 in the merge lane from southbound I-75, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The left side of the Tampa man’s truck hit the right side of the Cape Coral man’s truck, FHP said. The Cape Coral man was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his truck when it overturned onto the north shoulder after the collision, FHP said.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, FHP said.
Neither the Tampa truck driver nor his 55-year-old passenger was injured, the report said. Both Tampa men wore seat belts, FHP said.
The crash happened at mile marker 1.5 and northbound I-275.
The investigation is ongoing to determine which truck changed lanes first, FHP said.
