A crash between two pickup trucks on an East Manatee County road left two people seriously injured, including a 3-year-old, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The wreck happened at 6:54 p.m. Sunday in the Duette area on State Road 62/Wauchula Road, just east of County Road 39, FHP said.

A 36-year-old Bradenton woman was driving a pickup truck west on S.R. 62. A 3-year-old girl was in a passenger’s seat and not wearing a child restraint, FHP said.

Crash investigators say that the driver lost control of the pickup on S.R. 62. It veered onto a grass shoulder at the north edge of the road, reentered it, and then rotated into the path of a pickup traveling eastbound, FHP said.

The eastbound pickup truck hit the right side of vehicle. Upon impact, the 3-year-old was ejected through the right rear window, FHP said. She was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

After the collision, the out-of-control pickup continued to rotate and hit a wooden utility pole, FHP said.

The Bradenton woman was seriously injured, troopers said.

The driver of the other pickup, a 77-year-old man from Navarre, had minor injuries.

The crash remained under investigation on Sunday.
