A 32-year-old Palmetto woman was seriously injured when a train hit her SUV at a railroad crossing in Manatee County on Saturday, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The wreck happened at 1:35 p.m. at the railroad crossing at Bayshore Road and 25th Street East in Palmetto, FHP said.

Troopers say that the Palmetto woman was attempting to cross the tracks but “disregarded the yield sign and traveled into the direct path” of an oncoming southbound train.

The front of the train hit the left side of the SUV.

The Palmetto woman was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, FHP said.

The train driver, a 41-year-old Tampa man, was uninjured.

A crash investigation was ongoing.
