Bradenton crews contained over 8,000 gallons of sewage near Bishop Animal Shelter
Crews contained a nearly 10,000-gallon sewage spill near the Bishop Animal Shelter in Bradenton, according to a Florida Department of Environmental Protection pollution notice.
According to the spill log, Manatee County Utility technicians reported a break in a line in front of the gate at the shelter at 5718 21st Ave. W., Bradenton.
Crews with the city of Bradenton’s Utilities Department arrived, prepped the site for containment, sandbagged the area and used a Vac truck to draw the “leaking sewage percolating up from the ground.”
The spill log said there was a hole and crack in the pipe measuring 3/4 in diameter, where an estimated 8,400 gallons exited the pipe.
That was contained on site and absorbed into the ground, while the vac truck recovered about 1,000 gallons, according to the spill log.
It took about 4 1/2 hours for the Bradenton’s crews to contain the area.
