Work is set to begin on a new Manatee County roundabout. Public invited to learn more
There are 23 roundabouts coming to Manatee County, including one at the intersection of Tuttle Avenue and Whitfield Avenue.
The public can learn more about this planned roundabout during a Manatee County information session 6-8 p.m. July 20 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 7461 Prospect Road.
Project staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide project-related information. Guests who attend the session may arrive anytime between 6 and 8 p.m. to view design boards and project renderings.
There will be no formal presentation, according to a Manatee County press release.
Planned in conjunction with the roundabout are pedestrian ramps, crosswalks with rectangular rapid flashing beacons, pavement resurfacing of all approach lanes and the reapplication of pavement markings.
The project is budgeted at a cost of $3.2 million.
Start of construction is planned for late July, with completion in the spring of 2024.
Why so many roundabouts?
An increasing number of roundabouts are coming to the Bradenton area.
Traffic engineers typically cite improvements in safety, increasing traffic capacity by improving traffic flow for vehicles and pedestrians and traffic calming as reasons for converting traditional intersections into roundabouts.
